Humphrey & Emma Baking Co

I was blessed in life with not one, but two amazing grandfathers. As much as Humphrey and Emma came to being as a result of my Papa, My sourdough would not be here without my other grandfather, Boom-Boom. His actual name was Ronald and aside from being wicked smart, he was always asking when I would name a child after him. Well, I failed on that particular request. (Sorry Boomer). However, I did name a living, breathing organism that needs to be fed and at least some attention paid to it after him….. Thats got to count for something, right?

Ronald is the best sourdough starter, active and bubbly he makes delicious bread! Every week I bake sourdough and the whole time I think of Boom-Boom and how he is bringing joy and nourishment to such a wide audience. Pch, who needs a kid named after them?!

Perfecting the Cinnamon Roll

The other half of my bread offerings is cinnamon rolls. OMG, who doesn’t love cinnamon rolls? My mother and I used to go to breakfast at a local restaurant called Raedeans while waiting for my school to start. Every day we would split a ham and cheese omelette and a cinnamon roll. I wish y’all could’ve seen these cinnamon rolls. They were huge (!!) and SOOOOOOOO good. Many years later they unfortunately closed down. I did briefly contemplate contacting the owner and offering to name my first born after her if she gave me the recipe, but thats clearly not a promise I can keep.

So I found myself cold, alone, and cinnamon-roll-less. Every time we visited a new city we were on a mission to find the best cinnamon rolls that city had to offer. While we certainly enjoyed our fair share of good cinnamon rolls, none of them compared to Raedeans. Determined not to spend eternity wandering from town to town searching, I set my sights on creating the perfect recipe myself. While I can’t say they’re better than Raedean’s, they’re certainly the best I have had since they closed their doors.

And Raedean, if you’re reading this, I promise to name my next sourdough starter after you if you give me your recipe!!
